Recap of ZLC Meeting – Thursday May 11th – Brea, CA
As we are aware, GP % is down in the month of April. This GP decrease varies from 1 – 6% in each store. If the store has the low 1-2% it is because of the $2 per pack excise tax on tobacco. We have increased the retail $1.75. So stores are losing $0.25 per pack contributes to the low GP. We have communicated with 7-Eleven that we believe there should be a minimum $0.25 retail to offset the lower GP. SB271 – Mendoza
CA SB271 – Mendoza (Responsible Alcoholic Retailer Bill) FOASC is working on a “three strike law” in regards to ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) violations. We are working closely with California State Senator Tony Mendoza to create SB271. One of the highlights of the senate bill is the first strike. A first strike will result in a fee assessed by ABC, but it will not count as a strike against the store. If this bill passes, it is going to be a big win for store operations. In true California fashion, new measures that took effect on Jan. 1 will benefit millions of workers while posing additional challenges for employers. Some are broad, while others have a narrower focus. Below is a round-up of the notable New Year’s laws: Minimum Wage The state minimum wage increased to $10 per hour.
